The Merchant Navy is the commercial shipping industry responsible for transporting:

• Passengers (cruise ships)
• Offshore operations (oil rigs, FPSOs)

People working in the Merchant Navy are called seafarers and they work on merchant ships, not warships (those belong to the Navy).
